Import Facebook Birthdays and Events into Outlook

In Facebook, you get notified when someone has his or her Birthday (to write something on his/her timeline).

Is there a way that I can import these Birthdays in my own Calendar in Outlook?

Button Facebook Outlook CalendarYou can add the Birthdays from Facebook to Outlook as a “live” Internet Calendar which syncs with Facebook but with some extra effort, you can also import them in your own Calendar.

The same can be done with other Events on your Facebook Calendar.

Automatically add Facebook Calendar as an Internet Calendar

Adding your Facebook Calendar to Outlook as an Internet Calendar is quite easy:

  1. Login to Facebook and on the main page, click on the Events link in your Favorites section on the left or use this direct link.

  2. In the box at the bottom of the right sidebar (containing “Birthdays this week” and “Events happening this week”), click on the “Upcoming Events” or “Birthdays” link to open the Internet Calendar.
When Outlook is set as your default handler for the “webcal” protocol, then it will try to open Outlook automatically.
(if not, see the “Add as an Internet Calendar manually” below)

  3. When being prompted if the website may open Outlook, click: Allow
  4. In Outlook, you should now get a dialog prompting you to confirm to add the Internet Calendar to Outlook. You can click on Advanced… to set some additional options, but you can also directly select: Yes
  5. Repeat the above steps if you also want to add the other Facebook Calendar as an Internet Calendar to Outlook.

The benefit of having it added as an Internet Calendar is that any new, deleted or modified Birthdays and Events will automatically sync with Outlook. This is particularly handy if you add and remove Facebook friends quite regularly.

Via the Calendar Overlay feature, you can see your own Calendar and the Facebook Internet Calendar as a single Calendar.
