Search without a completed index in Outlook

Is there any way to search a PST when the index are not complete?

I have recently migrated to a new computer and the indexing is still crawling gently trough my 1.5Gb PST. However I still need to search!

Is there a way to perform an old fashioned, slow but effective search?

Windows Search buttonYou can temporarily disable indexing in the following way:

  • Outlook 2007
    Tools-> Options-> Search Options...
  • Outlook 2010
    File-> Options-> Search-> Indexing Options…-> Modify-> expand Microsoft Office Outlook to select which mailbox or pst-file to index.
  • Outlook 2013
    File-> Options-> Search-> Indexing Options…-> Modify-> disable the checkbox in front of Microsoft Outlook. You can’t specify which mailbox or pst-file to index; it’s all or nothing.

Enable it again when you're done with the computer. You can leave it on overnight to complete the indexing.

Sadly you can't have both indexed searches and non-indexed searches available to you at the same time.
