3 Methods to break the blue line in replies and forwards

A follow up on the previous tip about removing the blue line in forward and replies;

We actually like to use the blue line to quote the original message and then reply to the message in-line.

However, we would like to be able to break this blue line so that our reply would not have the blue marking in front of it and the recipient could easily see what has been newly added.

Is there a way to do this?

Formatting and attachments disabled for Notes section of Appointments, Contacts and Tasks

When adding something in the Notes section of an Appointment, Meeting, Contact or Task item, I noticed that the Format Text tab is completely greyed out and also most of the Insert tab.

I always used to be able to add Rich Text to this field and add pictures and other attachments to it but now it no longer seems possible. The Attach File button actually does seem to work but I can't access the files anymore after attaching.

What is causing this and how can I re-active it all again?

Attachments show up in the message body

Usually, when I add an attachment, it shows up in the “Attached” line directly under the “Subject” line.

However, sometimes it is being added between the text of the e-mail message instead.

Is there any way to toggle the location when the attachments show up?

Don’t convert drive path to UNC path

When inserting a link to a file on a mapped network share, the link is automatically converted to a UNC path. So a link that used to be;
H:\filename.txt
turns to;
\\servername\username\filename.txt

In the above example the H:\-drive is the user’s home drive and the UNC path now points to the home location of the sender instead of the receiver.

This is causing us some issues as we often place personal report files on the user’s home drive and then send them an email with a link to notify them of this. Our Human Resource department for instance does this in bulk and sends out a standardized email to all of the users at once with the H:\-drive reference.

Is there a way to configure Outlook that the drive path reference to the mapped network share is kept and that it won’t be converted to a UNC path?

Spaces in filename breaks hyperlink

In our organization we often send text based hyperlinks to folders and files we work on. Most of the time I just copy the path out of Explorer and insert it into the message body and put file:// if front of it so that Outlook will automatically create a link out of it.

This works great except if the file or foldername contains spaces. Then it breaks the hyperlink at the first space.

How can I make Outlook to create a link including spaces? Renaming the files and folders is not an option to us.

Signature size limit in OWA

I'm working with both Outlook and Outlook Web App (OWA) and therefor want to configure the same default signature in both clients.

To do this, I opened the Signature Editor in Outlook and copied my signature text. Then I logged on to OWA and pasted the signature in the Signature Editor there. However, when pressing "Save Settings", I get the error:

The text you typed is too long. Please shorten it and try to save it again.

This made me wonder; Up to how many characters are allowed for the Signature in OWA?

Signature won’t save because of File Block settings

When trying to create a new signature or editing an existing one, I get the following error;

"You are attempting to save a file type (Web Pages) that has been blocked by your File Block settings in the Trust Center"

The error also gives instructions to solve it, but when I follow these, I don't seem to have a "File Block Settings" in Trust Center.

How can I solve this and re-enable the saving of Signatures again?

Image in signature shows as attachment

I've created a signature with an image in it. Now recipients say that they always see a paperclip icon for messages I sent to them.

In some cases my signature image shows indeed as an attachment and in other cases no attachment is shown at all but still the paperclip icon is shown.

When I sent them a message without my signature, no paperclip icon is shown.

How can I create a signature with an image without the paperclip icon showing up at the recipient?
