Conditional Formatting rule is showing the wrong color

I used Conditional Formatting to color code email in my Inbox. All works fine except that any email from one particular person, John Hill, is colored olive no matter what I set the color to.

Trouble is, I use olive for a different set of senders. I need his to be teal.

It worked correctly for a week or so, but now no matter what I do, or how many times I try to change it, it always stays olive.

Any solution?

Conditional Formatting buttonIt sounds like your “olive” rule has a condition set which also applies to your “teal” rule. If this is the case, changing the conditions or the sorting order of your color coding rules is very likely to solve your issue.

You can organize your color coding rules in

  • Outlook 2007 and previous:
    View-> Arrange By-> Custom…-> button: Automatic Formatting…
  • Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016
    tab View-> View Settings-> button: Conditional Formatting…
