Trim down the list of translation languages

Using your previous tip of the Mini-Translator, I find that I sometimes still need to use the Research Pane to translate the text as the language isn’t always properly recognized.

This isn’t really an issue but selecting the correct “From” language is a bit cumbersome since the list of available languages is so long. The same is true for selecting the correct “To” language which for me basically only is English, Dutch or German.

Is there a way to trim down the list of translation languages to choose from to only the languages that I actually use?

Including a screenshot or clipping in your email

Ever wanted to include a screenshot in your email?

For instance, when requesting technical support or providing it, it often can be handy to include screenshots directly in your email message to clarify an issue or to provide instructions.

Outlook/Office 2010 contains a cool new feature to quickly insert a screenshot or a clipping, but even if you are not using Outlook 2010, it is still easy to quickly insert a good looking screenshot in an email.

Accessing/sharing non-default Outlook folders

A colleague of mine has given me permissions to access a couple of his sub folders and an additional Contacts folder that he created.

When I use File-> Open-> Other User’s folders, I can only choose between the Outlook’s default folders, but not any that he created himself.

How can I access these shared folders?

Have you discovered the Mini Translator already?

It is a quick way to translate a word or a text selection and can even be used in the Reading Pane without the need to open the Research Pane or the message itself.

Sorting Draft messages by date

I seem to have collected quite a bit of Draft messages over the years. Some are indeed current Drafts, some are templates that I regularly use and others are left-overs from messages which I cancelled but Outlook decided to save anyway.

I now want to clean up that folder but they appear to be sorted randomly and the date is indicated as “None”. Can still I sort my Drafts chronologically?

Hide flagged items of other mailbox in To-Do Bar

I’ve got an additional account in Outlook which I share with someone else. We often flag emails for each other which then show up in the To-Do Bar as well were it mixes with my own tasks and flagged mails.

I tried to disable this mailbox from displaying reminders in the To-Do Bar but that options appears not to be available.

Is there a way to only show tasks and reminders from emails in my personal mailbox and not from another?

Reduce ost file size with Synchronization Filters

As a mobile user, I love it that I can also cache other user’s shared folders and Public Folder Favorites.

However, some of these users are true packrats and some of these Public Folder Favorites are huge archives. The result is that my ost-file is really large (nearing 20GB) and makes my laptop slow since it doesn’t have a high performance SSD drive. I’m also starting to run out of disk space as I only have a 120GB disk in my laptop.

Aside from investing in a fast new disk or telling my colleagues to clean up, what else can I do?
