I can’t seem to add my new @outlook.com account to Microsoft Office Outlook. I just migrate from @hotmail.com a few days ago, and before that my original @hotmail account used to work well in Microsoft Office Outlook.
How do I get my Outlook.com account in Outlook?
It depends on whether this is a separate @outlook.com account, only an alias for your existing @hotmail.com account or whether you actually changed the main address of your current @hotmail.com account to the @outlook.com address.
Adding a new @outlook.com account
When you’ve signed up for a new Outlook.com account, you’ll now also have an @outlook.com address. Sadly, Outlook is not yet able to recognize how to set up the account automatically.
To still be able to configure your @outlook.com account in Outlook 2003, 2007 or Outlook 2010, install the Outlook Hotmail Connector first. After installing the Outlook Hotmail Connector and starting Outlook, you’ll be asked to configure a Hotmail account. You can supply your @outlook.com address and credentials here to configure your account.
If you already have the Outlook Hotmail Connector installed, choose to add a new account but to configure it manually. You’ll now have the option to select the type of account that you want to add. When you select “Other”, the Outlook Hotmail Connector can be chosen as the account type.
When you use Outlook 2013, choose to add an Exchange ActiveSync account type. For the mail server address use;
In the Hotmail Connector dialog, fill out your @outlook.com address.
@outlook.com alias for an @hotmail.com account
When you’ve added an @outlook.com alias to your existing Hotmail account, there is nothing that you have to do in Outlook to receive your @outlook.com mail. Messages which are being sent to your @outlook.com address will automatically show up in your already configured Hotmail mailbox in Outlook.
To add an @outlook.com alias to your Hotmail account use;
Press the gear icon in the top right corner next to your name-> More mail settings-> section: Managing your account-> Create a Outlook alias
You can find the Outlook.com options under the Gear menu.
Switching your primary address to @outlook.com
When you’ve switched your email address for your Microsoft Account (from @hotmail.com to @outlook.com) via the “Rename your email address” function, then you’ll have to add your account again in Outlook as per instructions in “Adding a new @outlook.com account” mentioned above.
Note: Switching your primary address has serious consequences for your existing Microsoft Account and some changes cannot be undone!
For instance, you now have to log on with this address as well to other Microsoft Account (formerly Live ID) services. When you have a Windows Phone associated with this account, you’ll have to reset your device and reconfigure it with the new @outlook.com address.
Your existing @hotmail.com address will still be an alias for your new @outlook.com mailbox. So mail that is being sent to your @hotmail.com address will continue to arrive. This alias will stay! It will not be taken away from you after some time. However, depending on your location, it might not always be possible to revert back to this address as the main address in case you changed your mind.
