Scanpst.exe can’t be found or started when Outlook is installed via the Microsoft Store

Scanpst.exe can’t be found or started when Outlook is installed via the Microsoft Store

My computer crashed while Outlook was running so I now want to check my pst-file for errors with scanpst.exe.

After searching for a long time on my computer, I finally found it in a very odd location (e.g. not in the location everybody is saying where it should be) and I can’t start it either as that returns a permissions error.

Why is scanpst.exe not in its default location and how can I start it so I can repair my pst-file?

Receive emails directly instead of once per hour for Connected Accounts in Outlook.com

Receive emails directly instead of once per hour for Connected Accounts in Outlook.com

I’ve configured a Connected Account in Outlook.com to read and reply to emails from another account that I own. This also allows me to receive them in Outlook without the need to configure an additional account.

A major downside of having a Connected Account is how long it takes for new emails to arrive. It seems that it only checks for new emails once every hour, which basically renders the feature useless to me.

Can I configure how often a Connected Account should check for new emails?

Printing Address Label Stickers with Outlook Contact information

Printing Address Label Stickers with Outlook Contact information

I bought a sheet of paper with self-sticking labels and was hoping to be able to print label stickers for envelopes with addresses from Contacts that I store within Outlook.

However, now that I have them, I have no clue where to start and how to make sure that the addresses will be properly aligned on my sheet of label paper.

Do I need special software for this or can I print on this label sheet directly from within Outlook?

You may have been BCCed warning

You may have been BCCed warning

On occasion, I receive emails which are sent to multiple people. To keep the conversation intact, I use the Reply All button to respond. Only afterwards, I realized that I was only a BCC recipient in the original message and thus I now revealed myself to the rest, which the original sender obviously did not want.

As this can be quite embarrassing, not only to me but also to the original sender, is there any way that Outlook can warn me that I was only a BCC recipient for the email?

Search and Replace for Contact fields

Search and Replace for Contact fields

I have lots of contacts in Outlook and I am looking for a way to update some contact fields so they will be more consistent. For instance, I’m looking to update the following properties;

  • For some contacts I’ve entered “AVE” and for other “Avenue”. I want this to be “Avenue” for everyone.
  • For some contacts I’ve included the country code in their phone number and I’d like to remove that.
  • Change the email address domain of several contacts as their company changed its name and has a new domain name.

How can I achieve these changes without modifying all contacts one-by-one?

Backup and Restore Outlook.com mailbox data

I used to have a POP3 account for which I always had to backup the pst-file and I had no issues with restoring it when I needed it.

Now that I have switched to Outlook.com, I no longer have a pst-file but an ost-file.

I tried opening the ost-file, to test whether I could restore it, but Outlook doesn’t let me and expects a pst-file.

  • Do I still need to make backups?
  • What is the best way to backup and restore my Outlook.com mailbox?
  • How do I convert this ost-file into a pst-file?

This is another one of my favorite "hidden" features in Outlook;

You probably know already that you can move emails by using Quick Steps but did you also know that you can use that very same Quick Step to open and go to that folder?
