Traveling between time zones

I frequently travel between different time zone. Sometimes I change my computer’s clock to match the time zone that I’m in and sometimes I don’t (depends a bit on how long I’m staying).

This can be quite confusing sometimes and I often worry if all my meetings and appointments are still scheduled on the correct time.

What is the best way to configure Outlook in this situation?

AutoArchive feature is missing

My mailbox is getting full and I wanted to archive some of my older emails with AutoArchive. However, it looks like I don’t have this feature available in Outlook at all.

A search revealed that update KB2412171 for Outlook 2007 might be to blame here, but I don’t have that installed as I use Outlook 2010.

How can I get the AutoArchive feature in Outlook?

Sending from an additional Exchange address

I’ve got an Exchange mailboxes which holds multiple email addresses. I can receive mail sent to any of these addresses just fine, but I cannot find a way to choose which address to send out with.

I’ve tried setting the From field with another address but that got automatically replaced with my default address or a bounce message saying that I don’t have permission to do so.

How can I send out a message with one of my mailbox aliases?

Quickly select a folder by typing its name

I’ve got quite a large list of folders (with names of customers) in which I sort my emails. Usually, to find a folder to which I want to move an email to, I need to scroll in the Navigation Pane and look for it.

As I already know the name of the folder, is there an easier way to select it? Perhaps similar to selecting a file or folder in Explorer by typing its name?

Meeting request holds no details for receiver

I’ve sent out a meeting request but some recipients complained that the message was empty. I know that at least one of them is not using Outlook but Mozilla Thunderbird. I use Outlook 2010 myself.

Is there anything I can do to solve this other than sending out regular email messages with the meeting details instead of actual meeting requests?

Contact updates from GAL in Notes section

For several contacts, the Notes field contains an overview of which fields have been changed. It appears that this new information is coming from the Global Address Book (GAL) of our company’s Exchange server.

While in general this is great, it creates some issues especially with synchronizing to my mobile phone due to the phone number formatting and the length of the Notes field.

Can I disbale this automatic updating of my contacts?

Colorful emoticons and smiley faces in Outlook

This might be a touchy subject for fanatic or business level Outlook users but I wanted to ask this anyway.

I know that Outlook supports emoticons as when I type :-) Outlook converts it to and it also does this for :-( and :-|. However, these are of course very old fashioned looking and quite limiting in choice.

I could insert an image each time, but an autoconvert feature such as in Windows Live Messenger and Skype would be better.

Anyway, how can I improve Outlook’s emoticon support?

Using Instant Search with Public Folders

When searching in my own mailbox, I directly get my search results when typing. However, when I do a search in a Public Folder, this is not the case and I have to press ENTER to actually start the search.

In addition, several search commands do not seem to work and are grayed out.

How can I make Instant Search for Public Folder behave the same as for my mailbox?
